GUTTERING AND EROSION CONTROL

If you have problems with erosion, especially on the down-slope side of your home, gutters are necessary. There are two inexpensive ways to control erosion in conjunction with house gutters. For flat home lots, use cement or plastic gutter down spout splash guards to direct the water away from your foundation. On sloped home lots, water from the gutters should be directed into buried pipes. These pipes carry water away from a house and should be solid, not perforated, and should move water to areas where it will drain away from your home. Ideally, water should be directed to a street or alley. If you are collecting water, it can be directed to a rain barrel or other storage tank to use in your garden or other uses.

CLEANING YOUR HOUSE GUTTERS
For your gutters to work properly, they need to be cleaned out periodically. Wind will cause leaves, pine needles and other debris to fall into your gutters and will clog up your gutters. This will keep the water to flow down your gutters as it should. Clogged gutters can cause damage to your gutters, foundation and flower beds and landscape. The fascia boards that hold the gutter system are often made of wood. When gutters clog and fill with water, the boards start to deteriorate and rot. To clean out your gutters you can either purchase special tools that will ease the job of cleaning your gutters or hire a company who specializes in cleaning out your home’s gutters if you prefer not to climb up on a ladder. Your gutters should be cleaned out at least twice a year.

Our gutters are either 5″ or the oversize 6″, seamless, and come in 18 colors. They are made on site from a flat roll of aluminum and installed with hidden hangers and screws, rather than the large unsightly spikes. We pay special attention to making sure angles are perfect, so your gutters will drain properly, and to verify an adequate number and placement of downspouts.

Gutters that are removed can be a mess when they are full of granules, leaves, trash and debris. Once removed, they cannot be effectively reinstalled, since they will bend and break upon removal.
